4 Steps to Revitalizing Dull Winter Hair
As California is finally catching up with the rest of the country and experiencing fall weather, it's time to do a little post-summer (and post-quarantine) overhaul. Because if we’re all honest, *sigh* we really need it.
Keep on reading to learn my 4 steps to refresh and revitalize your hair!
Step 1 - Clarify: It’s time to remove alllll of the sea salt, texture sprays, sunscreen and summer from your hair. Whether you’re looking for an in-salon deep clarifying treatment to really kick off your reset, or you’d like to try an at-home version with a color-safe clarifying shampoo, I’m happy to help. If you are leaning towards opting for an at-home remedy, I cannot recommend The Weekender enough from Unite. It’s simple, effective, and an absolute favorite. Click here to shop via my link!
Step 2 - Replenish. Once your hair is fresh and clarified, it’s important to add in the moisture that was lost to the sun and sea (and for many of us, the couch). To do so, a deep conditioning treatment is key. Now, you might have your typical deep conditioner on hand already. However, it’s important to make sure that the product you utilize is best suited for your hair type and needs. If you prefer to take care of things at home, I’m happy to select a custom conditioning treatment for your weekly usage. You’ll want to apply your at-home treatment through your mids and ends only, and allow it to soak in for 5-10 minutes before rinsing out. And if you’re in the mood to be pampered, feel free to book an in-salon deep conditioning treatment with me!
Step 3 - Trim: Now that those ends are nourished, it’s time for a snip. Trims are the best way to prevent further damage, breakage and loss. Much like trimming back our favorite succulents and plants (did anyone else become a plant parent in 2020?), we need to make sure we trim our hair to allow it to breathe and be fed. If you haven’t already, make sure to book a trim with me before the year is over! It never hurts to have healthy, shiny hair for the holidays, right?
Step 4 - Gloss: Okay, okay, this step is completely optional. But, if you’re looking for that fresh-and-shiny-fall-feeling, a gloss will be your best friend. Hair glosses add shine and moisture back into the hair, and can seriously revive previously done color. Your gloss can also be tinted, so if you have a color in mind or are wondering, “Michaela, what color gloss would I use?” just send me and email and let me know. I’m happy to color match for you!
Personally, I love slightly adjusting existing hair color with a great tinted gloss to create more richness and shine for the colder season. This allows you to have a slight refresh, without drastically changing your color.
